The Good Stuff
The blood, the sweat, the tears we shed for each other, sometimes for good sometimes not, the totality of our species accomplishments, its blunders, our entire history of surviving is riddled with beauty and strife. It seems that we are hard-wired to focus on the negative. Conflict harnesses our attention like nothing else. For this reason, it is crucial that we all leave space for the arrival of the good stuff.
Pay attention to the good stuff. It is all around, underappreciated and has the power to lift you up. Don’t allow the hard days to overshadow the good stuff. The simple act of holding someone’s hand and connecting at that moment is the good stuff. A co-worker helping another co-worker out of sheer thoughtfulness is the good stuff. Smiles, anytime anywhere, that’s the good stuff. Laughter, tears of joy, hugs, support, caring for others, love, that’s the good stuff. We are surrounded by the good stuff. Take it in, these are the memories that are meaningful in our short time here. These are the moments that are adored and longed for during life’s harshest moments. Soak up the good stuff. Collect these moments as if your life depends on it.
Many of us live in a fast-paced society where chasing the dream can easily overwhelm our systems and diminish our ability to appreciate the variety of comfort that surrounds us. Pump the breaks on occasion, be present in the moment, you’ll find the best things in life are free. No exceptions, no excuses, no regrets. Overcome the ape.
