Overcome all adversity. No matter how bad it gets, no matter how hard it is, overcome it all. Light the flames and become the phoenix. The hard times often served up by life do not equal a prison you cannot free yourself from. Long-term sentences of depression, hopelessness and pain will always be met by blue sky’s if you endure, if you do not give in, if you do not give up.
Eartha Kitt conceived by rape in 1926, born in January of 1927 is the epitome of overcoming adversity. Born on a cotton plantation to a mother that abandoned her and a ghost of a father in South Carolina, her life was set in motion amidst a pyre of pain and suffering. Her path as a young child was laden with abuse, poverty, and loneliness. She was afforded just enough basics to stay alive. At times she was required to eat with the cats in the crawl space beneath the house.
Mother Eartha rose from the ashes of her past and created a life she was more than fulfilled with. Her accomplishments over the decades of her life left a mark on this world and set an example of what can be achieved if the mind is willing to go there. Kitt won awards for her film, television and stage work. She was an activist in numerous social causes and led a life of pushing boundaries. When you think you can’t go on, remember Kitt, she still motivates to this day. No exceptions, no excuses, no regrets. Overcome the ape.
