The Pursuit of Action

Colossal action is the only thing that moves your life from point A to point B.  Thinking and planning and scheming to create change for later can put a big smile on your face, put you to bed like a soft puppy in a warm blanket.  It feels good to have a plan, an escape from your current circumstances.  Beware!  A plan is nothing but a daydream without action.  Comforting your mind with the promise of change for tomorrow is a trap.  It’s a trap that can imprison you for life.  You can always push off the regret that’s entangled in your brain another day.  Sliding regret over for days or decades is indistinguishable to your brain.  Regret today will feel the same twenty years from now, the only difference is more time of not enough action has passed.  Rock bottom is infinite, it has no true limit, you can always sink lower.  Rock bottom is also instantly reversible. 

                Changing direction in your head, reversing rock bottom so to speak, can be as simple as a decision for some of you but for the rest of us, flipping that switch in your head permanently over with no going back will be a struggle, an ongoing lifelong fight.  Suffering from alcohol/drug addiction or social media, video game and TV addiction, food addiction, depression or just trying to find where normal is for yourself can be a perpetual struggle.  Prepare to suffer to get better.  Change takes adjusting to until it is a habit.  Sometimes the feeling of success is not apparent for long periods of time.  This is the hardest part of change, not seeing results when you feel like you’ve put in the time.  You need to be thinking in decades not years.  The long game is what most people cannot stomach.  If you leave the long game the results will be nothing accomplished.  If you grind during the entire long game you will be better off than if you hadn’t.  Sliding back to comforting your mind and body via less effort happens in the blink of an eye.  Everyone slips and has their moments of weakness.  Getting back up and grinding has to happen or you will slip all the way pass your last rock bottom.  And this time the regret will weigh you down heavier than before, making it harder to grind forward.  Never stop, grind forward 7 days a week.  Life never stops coming at you, you must grind forward in the good times and the bad in order to gain permanent ground in your chosen life purpose.

                Your life purpose may be obvious, a mystery or a moving target that never seems to materialize.  Whatever your situation, action is mandatory to inch forward.  The mundane steps it takes to create a life well lived are taken advantage of daily.  A year down the road you will have made progress if you focus on constant action.  A decade from now you will not be recognizable to yourself if you keep at it.  When you slip, when you fall, get back up through any means necessary, keep inching forward.  Failure only happens through quitting, you can lose, you can suck, you can waste time and money, you can feel inadequate, not ready, terrified but move the ball forward daily.  Find a way to move, no one else will do it for you.  Click over to A Beautiful Mind to continue digging into our minds and overcome the ape.
